PROJECT 01

The objective of this project is to help us to develop awareness of environmental sustainability in architectural design and our ability to meet the imperative and inter-related environmental and social needs, as well as make poetry with materials and spaces based on understandings on human scale, proportion, ergonomics, and materiality.

Introduction

Group Work

For Project 1, we would have to form a group of 3 to deals with the understanding of material poetics in relation to user experience. This project is to inculcate understanding of basic building construction from how structural design is a construct of architectural spatial design, to the tactile quality of materials and how they are put together to achieve spatial and formal quality. For this project, we will undertake small design task where the duration of the task is kept to a minimum and is to train students to synthesize simple and quick design solutions as a result of a study on precedents. The task is a general term to refer to simple structure such as pavilion, folly, playscape, relief, or an architectural installation.

Workshop 01

For workshop 1, we are to come out with 2 pages of references of architecture for people with disabilities and 2 pages of “Design Intention Images” with the same group from Project 1.

Workshop 02

For workshop 2, we are to come out with 2 pages of annotated precedents and 2 pages of photos of the exploratory models individually.

Workshop 03

As for workshop 3, we have to do a 4 page, A3 sized booklet which consists of exploratory reference and precedents, exploratory sketches, and draft section drawing.

Site Analysis & Design Response

In each tutorial group, we are to conduct data collection and analysis of the given context, focusing on understanding the qualities of the natural environment and well as the needs of the community. We have to come out with a maximum of FOUR (4) A0 Boards landscape OR EIGHT (8) A1 Boards portrait

Project 02

For the final project, we are to design a Wellness Center PLUS on the fringe between a suburban neighbourhood and a botanical garden. We required to provide full design proposals incorporating findings from site analysis and precedent studies. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with environment and site and provide the best of spatial experiences in fostering a sense of community.
